Before you tell me, I know I'm probably overthinking this. :) But I'm curious...
I'm thinking about ways I can optimize the antihistamines I'm taking for my chronic hives. I'm currently taking 3 or 4 Zyrtec spread evenly throughout the day (usually 7am, 2pm, 7pm; or 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm). As well as Pepcid AC at 7am & 7pm. And Hydroxyzine 25mg around 10pm right before bed. Right now, this mix prevents really horrific breakouts but I still wake up with new daily hives all over my body in the morning (no, it's not a bedbug allergy).
My thought in spreading out the antihistamines is that keeping a steady amount in my body would be better than letting the levels dip in the middle of the day.
However, since 95% of my new hives form between the hours of 5pm-5am (and 90% between 10pm-3am), I'm wondering: should I be taking all my antihistamines as close to that time range as possible? Like, what's the point of taking any during the day when I don't get new hives?
I've read many people here taking 2 antihistamines in the morning right when they wake up (makes sense, because that's usually when hives from the night before are worst) and 2 right before bed (which again makes sense because then the antihistamine levels will be highest when hives usually get worse in the middle of the night).
Thoughts? If you take meds at night, what specific time do you take them? Any scientific studies or anecdotal evidence is appreciated. :)
