So I'm in a situation where I may have to become houseless to be close to my son in the next 6-8 months. However, I have a full $40,000 LOC at my disposal. I'm contemplating putting it towards a camper.
I'm just wondering if this is short term desperation thinking or a smart idea.
No bones about it, it would put me in devastating debt. Even a cheap one in usable condition is about $10,000, and you can't exactly stealth camp with one so it would necessitate spending $6-$800/month in lot rent. That plus the monthly payments towards the LOC would probably add up to about $12-1400/month in living fees so not really living on the cheap, but it does seem do-able, as my spouse and I would both be working. And ultimately the goal would be to save towards apartment living, at which point we could sell the camper and recoup most of the money.
So for you camper dwellers, tell me about it. Is it worth it? Can you still save money living in a camper or RV? Did you go into any substantial debt to do it?
