East 86th Street memories. Help with a business name?

Before the block between 1st and 2nd changed so dramatically, who remembers the small, downstairs coffee spot on the south side of the street? It was closer to 2nd Ave.
I used to go there frequently. Talking late 90s, early aughts. What was the name? Also, there were a few brownstones there, and I remember hearing a story about the woman who had a very unkempt and messy stoop area with "KEEP OFF" signs posted.
