Hello, this is my first post here, so pretty much I have a small city where the player gets to buy a piece of land and his friends can buy something too, the thing it's that I have a building system that works on a grid but predetermined on a map. what I want to do is make all the city divisions by land and build on them, do you think it's a good idea to permanently grid all the map or its better to just save coordinates that a player owns and then make the grid inside?
How will you manage this, taking on count that you can later sell the land to your friends or buy the adjacent land and duplicate its size until you can own a huge part of the city and build on every one of them.
I was thinking of making a permanent grid and give a name to each square where every square and give the player a list of where he is able to build, but if i want the city to grow on game progressing im not sure if it can affect the quantity of data that this should create.
What recommendation could you give me to manage this?
