How do I get physics to collide with custom object channels

This looks like an engine bug. I've created a custom object channel (block all) and when I set a static mesh to use it, physics objects don't collide with it. When I change the mesh's collision back to static world object, physics collide again. There shouldn't be any reason why physics doesn't work with custom channels.
