Retro Pixel Art is overrated.
Post Body
To start off, let me be clear: The retro/pixel art aesthetic is great. It can be fluid, colourful, artistic and so on. But when every second indie game uses pixel art...
Maybe it's because I was born near the end of the PS1 and grew up with the PS2, where sprite-based games were much less common, so I lack nostalgia for it but I never got the obsession with the pixel aesthetic in the indie scene. As I said above, I can see the appeal it's just that it's everywhere if you play indie games a lot.
And, on a purely personal level, I just prefer models. I like being able to make out all the details of a character's design that often get obscured, muddied or left to the imagination in pixel sprites among increasingly more subjective reasons.
