This only serves the purpose to set oneself up to make an anecdotal argument. I admit, anecdotal evidence has its place, but many debates I’ve had are centered around trying to poke at axioms built on personal stories.
The problem with this is that stories can be manipulated and flexed to evade any sort of evidence against it. Without evidence and facts there is no conviction (which would make personal stories more compelling).
So, whenever I hear “As a (identity - be it occupation, background, race, religion, etc.) without any other context, I become weary that I’m dealing with a person who is focused on being right rather than finding right.
TL;DR - I don’t take people seriously who use this phrase to set up an argument.
EDIT 1: Love the debate here. Brings tears of joy to my eye.
