The moment we stop treating unfathomable atrocities at the hands of humans as anomalies is the moment we can immediately advance societies.
Every week or so, for every unspeakable horror, people speak of the transgressors as anomalies, as isolated incidents, or as true impossibilities, however, humans continue to one-up their violent history.
In the book Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker, he proposes that once we reframe humans as capable of unspeakable atrocities is the moment we are better equipped to defend ourselves. The moment we assume humans are incapable is the moment we can no longer defend ourselves.
Consider that humans are capable of at every single moment of every day of committing horrors unimaginable, unfathomable, and unspeakable, once that realization is made itβs only then that humanity can start building a better future for everyone.
