I love /ama and /iama posts, but I've noticed a trend: if the person mentions the fact that they quit their job, they are almost universally insufferable. I am referring to posts like "I quit my promising law career to farm beets in Uruguay," "I quit being a corporate slave like all of you peons to found a million-dollar startup," "I quit my job to travel the country in an antique pickup truck with my pot-bellied pig." They seem to think of themselves as uniquely brave and interesting; they list random facts/accomplishments ("I have IBS!" "I learned German!" I asked a girl to marry me and she said no!"); they try to impart their vast wisdom ("believe in yourself!") to all of us little wage-slave, hobby-less, boring people. Have they never met other people?
