A cell, in a massive fucking body moving products, ideas, environments, and everything in between. We are aware of precious little of this organism you might call the world at any given time, simply because we are limited in our ability to process it all. We see some of the way it moves through the different mediums we appreciate. Writing, meditating, business, economics, fashion, whatever. These are mediums for human cells to move their contribution to the whole, and the means by which they interconnect to the rest of the body. By individuating, human cells specialise, and get better at some mediums over others. Through these they interconnect to other cells with various individuations of their own. The cells interconnecting infinitum to make up the body of our world.

Now say we tell a story, stories can be spread through humans in any medium be it directly or indirectly. They involve change or exchange, movement of some contribution to the whole. In this case me and through Reddit/writing. "politicians are corrupt" "The world is going to die" "there isn't much point" "It's rigged" "retelling how shitty the world is makes it worse". One cell, shares the story and people observe it. Now since it's human nature be a good cell and be a nice interconnected cell, we indulge the story that seems most applicable to the little of the world we are aware of. We share it again, via our mediums. Then that medium is observed and becomes part of the world.

Now let's retell one of these horror stories I just mentioned. Expressible in every medium, applicable to most things you see. The more mediums and the more human cells that absorb them, the more the world reflects this story.

"The tv show is about the end of the world,

my business plan sells to paranoid preppers,

these stock predictions suggest paranoia will encourage buying,

the movie is about what we should prepare for.

I told them how the world really works"

We observe mediums like these, and advise giving voice to stories like these, because it is natural to want to be right. To want to be smart. Stories about the horrors of the world and humans can be reinforced readily and easily by looking to our own experience, statistics, memes, or the news. culminating them into what we believe to be the truest story. Near certain as gravity.

Suddenly it becomes in people's interest to promote this story. We are considered nieve for listening to any other story. Stupid for caring about something that aparently will be gone soon. Impractical for not grabbing while the getting is good. How dare we believe that something is so precious that we wouldn't let it be destroyed. That there is much that everyone simply does not know, especially about the future and the goodness of people.

The nihilism perpetuates itself, fed on our good intentions and our need for certainty and confidence. Our actions reflect more and more this story we have been told and this translates into our mediums which further inspire and define the world. Becoming this cruel, terrible, world we must defend ourselves from. Made up of people

just like us.

We, as individuals, make the world the way it is. There's a reason I say "retelling" as opposed to telling. We give stories our headspace and effect millions of people just by living through our mediums. Without even trying we give stories power. This passivity to mass stories strengthens them and our reality shifts to reflect them with our behaviour.

We want this bullshit to end? We need the appreciate alternatives and efforts towards them. We need to quit using the stupidly obvious, shitty, common, stories, as inspiration. Put them to bed once we learn from them and try doing something better. We need to stop caring so much about proving to others we are right. Appearing stupid or out of touch is a requirement when any kind of positive change occurs. Being kind creates a space for this change. And listening/respecting one another balances it out and makes it sustainable.

But no matter what, it starts with you. You want this bullshit to end? Use yourself as a medium to manifest a better story.

TLDR The easier we make it to interpret our environment as reflecting a given story, the more powerful it becomes.
