Increasing voter turnout is the LAST thing any of us should want.
Post Body

Democracy is a mathematically stupid form of government, and here's why.

The median is a statistical average that divides populations at the middle, numerically. For instance, in any group of 10 people, five of those people will be taller than the other five. Five will be older than the other five. And so on.

Regardless of how you quantify it (and for the purposes of this argument, we won't need to) anyone who has ever spent any time with other people will concur that some people are smarter than others. Don't believe me? Spend five minutes in traffic.

So, in our hypothetical group of ten voters, half will be smarter than the other half. However you measure it, the statistical reality is that half the people in the world are of below-average intelligence.

Now say voter turnout is at 60%. THE BEST you can hope for is that the voting pool consists of 16% people who are dumb (below-average intelligence). That's the best you can do, one sixth of your electorate is stupid, and you have to represent their opinions in a majority-rules democracy.

Now, if you increase voter turnout, to say, 70%, now your percentage of idiots has climbed to around 29%. Suddenly more than a quarter of the people who are making and voting on policy are idiots.

If, God forbid, you got to 100% (mandatory voting) then EVERY SINGLE STUPID PERSON would have their voice represented in government. Anti-vaxxers. Flat-Earthers. MLM huns. The dumbest of the dumb. ALL OF THEM.

No thanks. Majority rule is a statistically stupid way to run a country.
