If you really care about a video game franchise, purchasing games that clearly have lower quality or deceptive marketing is not supportive

In particular I'm talking about the Pokemon franchise but that's just the most recent drop in the bucket.
By supporting a companies poor decisions and malicious marketing tactics you are actively hurting a franchise and telling them that it's OK to keep abusing it's fans.
Just like with anybody else in life, there is a point where you just have to let them suffer with their mistakes and try to learn from it. Companies are no exception.
