Put your damn phone up, and actually WATCH what's happening.
I was at my nephew's kindergarten play, sitting in the back row, and in front of me was a sea of cell phone screens. These people were more concerned with recording the performance without having the screen of the sheep in front of them in the frame, than watching their kids sing whatever song it was.
I feel like it takes something away from the experience when you focus your presence on getting a recording that you probably won't watch again anyways. Or maybe you will, because you didn't REALLY see it the first time.
