I feel like commentators generally are just stating the obvious and very rarely do they actually give insight into the sport game or match that provides the audience with a better viewing experience.

Alternatively, there are times when commentators show clear bias towards one team over another or are making remarks unrelated to the sporting event and both instances take away from the fact that commentators are there to simply guide the audience along with the game.

Bearing this in mind, commentators just distract from the sporting event and there should at least be an option that doesn't involve muting the TV to watch the game without commentators.
