The gun mechanics and damage were more realistic, there was more strategy to the map objectives, and you chose your layout based on a point total, instead of having to buy them, so if your team was doing poorly, you wouldn't be prohibited from getting better guns.
It also worked that you re-spawned throughout the game, instead of dying and then being forced to watch the game in spectator until the round was over. The action never ended.
