"Getting big" shouldn't be the end goal of lifting
Post Body

Lifting weights is good, resistance training is good - if the end goals and benefits are immediate (i.e. better mood and better posture). The obsession with "getting big" and "getting ripped" is a very unrealistic, vapid and superficial goal and defeats the point of exercise in the first place. "Bulking up" is not a sign of "good health". Increasing strength and maintaining physical and mental wellbeing need not take the form of "getting ripped" and "getting big". Strength/resistance training and body building are two completely distinct activities. The former is the more healthier and desirable goal. The sooner the more men who actively lift weights realize this, this lesser cases of bigorexia we will have. For me personally, there are far more interesting and compelling things to achieve in life than "get big" or "ripped" (i.e. spending time in forests, reading books, making music, learning to cook, learning to do DIY maintenance on musical instruments).
