I'm an expat and I firmly believe that expats (as in people who move abroad for work) should actively avoid hanging out with people from their country of origin or region of the world and seeking them. First of all, it's lame and lazy and second of all it's disrespectful towards the country that you are living in and its people.
It's fine to know a few people from your country of origin or region of the world in the country you live in now but if after 4-5 years of working and living somewhere, you have not met, befriended or hung out with a single local then that's a major problem. Staying in your own parallel social bubble is the best way not to integrate.
