Midsommar might be the most nothing-burger of a movie I have ever seen.
Post Body

I hear so much praise for it. Tier 3 on the disturbing movies iceberg. Directed by the same guy who did Hereditary which is a very very solid film.

Midsommar is nothing. There is no plot. There is no reason to care about anything that happens. It isn’t engaging. It isn’t disturbing. It isn’t eerie or unsettling. It’s a bit uncomfortable when the two characters commit suicide out of ritual or whatever, but of course it is. That would be uncomfortable in any setting. Doesn’t mean that I care at all or that I think anything interesting was done.

It’s the most pretentious fake deep garbage I’ve ever seen, I rarely have ever passionately disliked a movie as much as I dislike this one, despite a solid cast giving good performances. But a good performance doesn’t mean shit when I could not care less about what they’re doing.

Wow, they’re doing a ritual and making noises. Interesting! NOT! Fuck this movie. Biggest waste of 2 and a half hours I have ever seen.

Hereditary was a good slow burn that if anything got worse when it shifted from a masterful eerie psychological horror exploration on grief to a well done but incompatible monster film.

Midsommar is just "watch a cult be scary while these other assholes bicker before they get killed".
