Vagabonds this summer

My wife and I have the means, the miles, and the flexibility to be vagabonds this summer, and we plan on living in hotels and airports for about 2 months. We're limited to domestic US for work reasons, but what suggestions does this sub have? What cities? What have been your experiences in leisure travel across the country? (AK and HI are in play as well)
