I went to the union hall today for a plumbing apprenticeship and I don’t understand the pay. Currently make 18 open shop first year apprentice after 3 months (had an evaluation after 90 days). So for the union 1st year 1st 6 months would I calculate my take home pay 40x15.81 or 40x23.95?
I plan on following up depending on what the package ends up being but at the moment having to relocate to work for a pay cut doesn’t seem appealing, I currently live an hour away from my closest union hall
I asked my shop what the payscale would be for 4th year apprentice and they said they could go up to 26. But wouldn’t 42.84 be the package but take home would be 31? Im in the army reserves and the biggest selling point seems to be health insurance but I already have that for 60 bucks through the army
Im currently non-union and make 18hr I went to the union to get educated/informed because I was curious but yea I agree 15.84 is kinda low for take home pay

No that’s the catch I suppose, I’m just OJT. I have another year but I think I may sign another contract
