Probably sound like a broken record from other posts but most of what I see is from stem students. I know this is ridiculously pretentious but as a first year I was so excited for the intellectual exchange I thought I’d be engaging with at uni. I take history English and philosophy subjects and although the lectures are generally interesting, the tutorials feel like a ridiculous waste of time. No one seems to care about what we’re learning about and hardly anyone contributes to the discussions. I don’t know whether people are too shy or think they’re too cool for it, but jfc what else did you think you’d be getting from uni? I also get the feeling people find me a little annoying when I try to get conversations going in tutorials but when I’m paying $2000 for a subject I’m gonna try and learn a bit. I don’t think that’s unreasonable. Should’ve gone to England or something where people take arts seriously. Believe it or not I actually do care about this stuff and it’s so demoralising to show up and get almost nothing back from my peers who I thought would have a bit of passion themselves. At least consider how much you’re paying for this shit and how little you get out of it when you don’t put it in an ounce of effort..
