I am 24 Black and Cambodian mixed guy, my Dad is Fully Black and my mother is Cambodian/Khmer. They’ve been separated since I was 9 years old and I’ve spent time with them separately for a year at a time (I’m an only child). Spending the year with my mother and her side of the family was very different than my dads side, they were more open and close knit with one another, all of my cousins on her side were always together and we would even take showers together to save time. From what I can remember most of my male cousins are uncircumcised, which I thought was a “normal” for everybody at the time because all of our dicks looked alike.

Until one year when I was 11/12 it was my year with my dad, which I always looked forward too because he was a typical Black man. He played R&B classics from day to night, he had a Firebird and two Cadillac Deville’s (One of which he later passed down to me), always smelled like cigars and black ice, He was someone the neighborhood kids looked up too. One day we came back from the barbershop and I had to use the bathroom really bad while we were on the freeway and he told me he’d pull over so I can pee on the side of the road but I insisted on using an actual bathroom, Growing up around my mom and all of her sisters my cousins and I were taught that doing things like that were “inappropriate” for young men to do so I guess it stuck with me.

When we finally got to his house I remember running to guest bathroom and I immediately sat down and started peeing without even thinking about closing the door behind me, my dad walked past and said “Why the fuck are you sitting down to piss dude?”, it didn’t register to me what he was saying so I just had a look of confusion on my face. He asked me if I always went to the bathroom like that and who taught me to do that, then it clicked that I’ve been surrounded by uppity Asian females for half of my life, he then told me that men stand up to piss and that we should only sit down to take a shit.

He asked me if I ever tried to pee standing before but at the time I never had, I remembering him telling me to stand up and face the toilet even though I had already pissed my kidney out, but I stood up anyway just standing there with nothing coming out. He told me to at least try to do it ( at this time I hadn’t fully gone through puberty so my foreskin was always covering the tip) so when I tried to push some pee out it squirted everywhere but inside the toilet, he got frustrated and was like “Ah hell nah Brodie, you getting piss all over my bathroom and shit.” “You gotta pull the thing back to piss kid or you gonna get that shit everywhere.”, I still stood there with a dumb look on my face because I was never told that sitting down was a “bad” thing, he walked closer to me “pull the skin back and aim”, I pulled it back as far as I could but my piss still shot out on the toilet seat, “watch out” he moved me over and stood in front of the toilet “ Ima show you once and after that you gotta figure it out on your own”. He unzipped his pants and pissed right in front of me “I don’t have none of that extra stuff so I don’t gotta do as much as you”, that was my first time seeing a circumcised dick before and my dad has partial vitiligo so when I saw it not only did he not have the extra skin his was black and white, still confused I asked him why did his look like that and that’s when I found out the difference between cut and uncut, he told me that Black men don’t keep the skin but my mom didn’t allow the doctor to circumcise me .

Long story short, is it rare for Black American men to not have foreskin? Or is it frowned upon in the Black community?
