Backstory: A couple of years ago, I ascended when I got the Acer XR382CQK. It soon started having issues, the panel would randomly go off for short periods of time. After almost a year of this I decided to return it and get instead the LG 38GL950. This was about a year ago.
The LG was great, and in my unit I never heard the fan in the G-sync module. However, last Monday, something went *pop* inside it, and now it's dead. Fully dead, probably a capacitor in the main board.
Happily, it looks like I will be getting a full refund for it instead of a new unit.
Given that my initial investment has already got me nearly 2 years of monitors and now I'm getting it all back, I'm finding myself in a position where I can pretty much search for an ultrawide without a strict price limit, but as usual I'm kind of lost as of what to pick.
For context, I will be using it both for productivity and gaming (3080ti). Some degree of programming will be involved, but lately I'm spending more and more time doing PowerPoints, so DPI is not necessarily the main measure here.
I am searching for something large (38inch ), but with my desk a 32:9 would be pushing it, and I am not enthused about not being able to take all the screen in without having to look around. Plus, I like the extra vertical real state of 21:9 compared with 32:9.
So far my candidates were the newer LG 38GN950 (although I'm sort of doubtful after the last one) and the Alienware AW3821DW, mainly because I am reading that their warranty is top.
I just found about the Dell U4021QW, which has what I expect will be the new standard for resolution in ultrawides (5k2k), but it looks sub-par for gaming. So far I'm leaning towards the AW for the G-Sync Ultimate, but I may be missing something here.
Am I missing anything else? Other good options? Should I go insane and go for a 43 qled? What would be the best option here, considering that price is not that much of a limiting factor?
