HDR on Alienware Alienware AW3423DWF Question

A couple of days ago I got an aw3423dwf and it's the first ever hdr and ultrawide experience I've had so I'm new to this realm lol so I got a clarification and a question:
(clarification/question)
- When I play games with HDR I have to set it up in Windows, via the monitor and the game itself correct?
(question)
- If I'm not going to play with HDR do I have to disable it in Windows and the monitor itself via the panel settings, or just Windows and leave HDR on the panel still?
- Should I always play with HDR in all games?
Any help with be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Thanks for the help. I didn’t know how auto hdr worked on windows but now it makes more sense to keep hdr on pretty much always.
