I am in desperate need of advice on how to defend malvern hill as the union. I just cannot fathom how to stop 50k constantly charging confederates with maybe 10k.

This is the first battle ive seriously struggled with, pretty much smashing the confederates into a meat grinder the whole campaign, with 3 or 4 to 1 kill ratio at a minimum, yet im still hopelessly outnumbered! am i meant to have just killed vastly more by now? I dropped 12k at bull run, 34k at shiloh and another 22k at gains mill, but it doesnt seem to have done anything more than give the confederates three star units despite getting their asses handed to them at every battle so far.

Is there something im missing in the defensive terrain? i dont use the fortifications becase it just makes the unit a target for multiple enemies, and the cover just doesnt make up for it and they break. Should i be retreating and counter attacking?
