Quick Question before sending the Spousal Visa off!

My husband is from the US and we're applying for him to move to the UK.

Once the visa has processed, and our work program in Japan has finished, we will move back to our respective countries (me, UK, him, US).

Say he wants to visit me in the UK while the application is active. Will he be able to visit me for a week as a tourist while we are waiting for the visa to process? He would ofc return to the US after that week.

Or will that not be a possibility? I need to know so we can prepare in advance for what's to come.
