Buying an instrument you haven't been able to try?

I started playing about 6 months ago taking private lessons and I'm in love with it. I want to get a new instrument and after watching all (but very few) reviews of a Deering instrument, I realized I cant find any near me to try out. After talking to my local ukulele shop, their orders are 8 weeks out and I'm still deciding weather its a safe bet to pull the trigger on a banjo ukulele.
