Edited to include update from https://www.reddit.com/user/Berkamin/ that the wording in the report may be confusing drones and systems of drones (each 1 system has multiple drones per one). So a shipment of 10 systems may be translating to 100 drones total, aka 100 less high-value Russian targets in the world. While the first donation may have been of be of 100 systems of the 300-range with 10 drones per system, aka 1000 300-drones in the first shipment and now an additional 100 of the 40km range drones in the new one. Putin’s Problem: Up to 1,000 Switchblade Kamikaze Drones Are Headed to Ukraine
There's not definitive confirmation either way, but given the 600-series ability to take out high-value targets a long way behind enemy lines, whichever is the exact number, however many they have, hopefully they get alot more to quickly neutralize as many high value Russian targets a long way behind enemy lines as possible.
From Bloomberg:
"The Pentagon plans to order and send to Ukraine 10 of the newest model Switchblade drones armed with tank-busting warheads in addition to previously announced deliveries of a less powerful version, according to two people familiar with the decision.
The new Switchblade-600 weapons are part of $300 million in lethal military assistance announced by the Pentagon Friday night that will be contracted directly from industry instead of drawn from existing stocks, according to the people, who asked not to identified discussing the plan.
The White House said on March 16 that it was supplying 100 of the drones as part of a $800 million package of weapons and gear taken from U.S. inventories. But those systems are the “series 300” versions: 3.3-pound (2.5kg) drones designed to attack personnel and light vehicles. They can fly about six miles (10 kilometers) and loiter over a target roughly 15 minutes, according to a fact sheet produced by the manufacturer, AeroVironment Inc.
The new 50-pound model, produced by the Simi Valley, California-based company can fly more than 24 miles (39 kilometers) and loiter 40 minutes before attacking with an anti-armor warhead. The drone operator uses a tablet-based touchscreen fire-control system with the option to pilot the loitering missile manually."
Hopefully Russia realizes that the longer it stays in Ukraine, the better equipped the Ukrainian army will continue to get; they now have access to and experience with increasingly cutting-edge military technology; by prolonging the conflict, Russia will only cause their neighbors to become better armed and better equipped (and not even just through their own farmer-facilitated tank donations). Hopefully both the 600 (heavier but with 4x the range) and 300 series of the 'flying shotgun', designed to be carried in a backpack and used remotely to strike targets through tablet interface, are effective and are met with increasing and continuing support to end Russian aggression as soon as possible and before it reaches Europe. I honestly hope UA gets enough resources at once to quickly remove Russia from its territory, rather than having a prolonged stalemate. It allows other countries the chance to neutralize a hostile power, rather than waiting until the problem is literally on their doorstep and they're drawn into a worse conflict. Anytime I see Ukraine getting more equipment, I'm happy, and I love that the range of these can help them launch precision strikes from a long distance to hit high-value targets rather than having to rely on just close combat.
