๐จ๐จ๐จ LIZ TRUSS HAS RESIGNED AS PRIME MINISTER
A new Tory leader will be elected before next Friday, 28th October. Liz Truss will remain in post until then. The format for the October 22 leadership contest is as follows:
- Candidates will need the support of 100 Tory MPs by 2pm on Monday, 24 October.
- When there is more than one candidate, there will be an indicative vote of Tory MPs for the remaining candidates. This only indicates the MPs' preferences for a candidate to the party membership, and doesn't decide on who wins the contest. There will then be an online ballot of the Tory membership.
- Hustings between candidates and Tory MPs on Monday when nominations close.
- If there is only one remaining "unity" candidate by Monday, there will be no online ballot and that person will become Prime Minister and Tory leader.
