Use of "brotherhood" in Co-Ed fraternity

Post Body

The professional co-ed fraternity I'm in uses the word brotherhood to refer to unity, and refers to everyone as brothers. It just seems so contradictory to me, I'm a new member but should I just pose an inclusive change to the two biggest used words in the organization? Any help?
