Marching band
Post Body

I’m very interested in trying out for the marching band, but I have a few concerns. For some background, I play the alto sax. I’ve done marching band since freshman year and I’ve been in pretty much all of the bands at my current high school. I was even section leader last year and I would have been this year but due to obvious reasons this year’s season was cancelled.

I was disappointed but I moved on and now I’m thinking if I should continue to march in college. My current band is nothing special, but we could be a lot better. I’m not worried about the audition process too much, I just want to be able to make friends and naturally I’m nervous about meeting brand new people in a somewhat new environment(I’m from Wilmington and I’m also in a summer program on campus).

Has anyone on here played or is currently in the marching band? Generally speaking what are the people like? I know I won’t get along with everyone but my main fear is not being able to fit in for several reasons.

Edit- Thanks for the responses everyone! I’m not as nervous anymore, it was wonderful to hear all of your great experiences in the band. I definitely plan on trying out and maybe asking a few friends who are also going to UD to try as well.
