Ok, so I'm posting this strictly for a point of discussion but, I've been questioning this a lot lately.
Typically 1099 contractors control their own work schedule. They set their own rates, choose their own jobs, and have the ability take as many or as few jobs as they choose. Think about typical tradesmen. Plumbers, Carpenters, Electricians etc...
While we, as drivers, can work our own chosen schedule we can't set the rates at which we work. Also, if we don't work rush hour, we don't make as much money, so at the very least it affects the choices we make with our work schedules.
Are we really free to choose our own jobs? Yes, we can decline or cancel rides but, how many threatening messages do we receive from the platform if you do it too often? Is that consistent with independence? Shouldn't we be classified as something in between 1099's and W-2 employees?
Please share your thoughts and be respectful of each other.
