To be honest, I'm a weekender. I do maybe 10-15 hours a week, mostly on weekends or for a big event. In the past, running both platforms, making $300 a week wasn't too big of a hassle. Most of my money was doing early morning airport runs and late night drunkards from da downtown clubz.
Since the rate decrease (Portland), my earning for the same times have gone down 15-20 percent, and I'm having to drive longer than usual to make my "goal", which to be fair really isn't a hard and fast number since this is just supplemental money for the family budget.
I've always known that driving for the rideshare companies was basically playing a shell game of transferring money from the value of your car to your pocket, kind of like a reverse mortgage for your house. However with these new rates, and the amount I'm having to drive, it is increasingly difficult for me to justify going out at night/morning. I've been doing this since summer of 2015, and I am afraid they've finally broke me.
My wife starts a new job making about 25% more than she did at her previous job, starting in mid-January. I think that will be my date to finally bid farewell to the rideshare game.
