Passenger left phone but took flight back home.

I'm in San Diego and the passengers left his phone in my car. He had an early morning flight to Newark. Any tips how I should deal with this? Should I deal with him directly or go through the app? Update: I sent it through FedEx next day delivery, the customer paid for the shipping. I found a box and wrapped it and taped the label and dropped it off.
