Rentals: credit score run if pay by debit. 500 credit score might pass?

I lost my credit card, and have to wait 10 business days or so to receive the replacement by mail.

I'll be renting from Avis. I used a debit card a few years ago at Avis, and did pass the credit check...even though my credit score was about 500-550 then, and similar now.

(If using a credit card, no credit check is needed.)

I asked the Avis employee by phone last week if there is an exact minimum credit score, but of course he was vague.

Anybody here willing to admit they were able to rent a rideshare vehicle with a low credit score of about 500, or know a fellow driver who did?
