FOR DRIVERS:
I start my mornings at 3 AM taking reservations from the night before because I don’t want any of the lagging bar crowd or house party people in my car at 3 AM. I’m strictly a day driver and don’t appreciate drunks.
On two different occasions in the past 30 days, I’ve had to cancel reservations at the 5 minute 1 second mark because the passenger didn’t come out in time and I’m not interested in taking them in the first place if I can collect the roughly 80% that I get paid on the reservation because they were a no-show. In my market, at that time of the morning between 3am-5am, I just do one airport trip after another. I’m driving a Tesla so I don’t go without lucrative trips.
It’s great since the rider can’t give you any rating because they were never in the car but on both occasions, the rider was notified that the reservation was canceled, and they immediately just ordered again and it was sent directly to me. Unfortunately, their addresses are only referred to by proximity information and not the actual number address, so I accepted them and then immediately canceled them again.
The main point of this post is to highlight the fact that I would absolutely never want to have those people in my car after I just canceled the reservation and collected a fee from them only to have them retaliate by being shitty in the car on the way to the airport and then giving me one star and complaining to Uber about their service.
Has anybody else had to deal with this sort of situation? I can’t imagine that it would go any different than what I assume.
FOR RIDERS:
Remember that I arrive early for your reservation, text you that I’m there early that you don't need to rush, and that I look forward to seeing you when you’re ready.
I don’t text you with permission to take up as much time as you need beyond your five-minute allowance for your reservation.
It goes without saying, but I honestly don’t care if you get a ride to the airport or not. The one thing I’ve learned about passengers that are like this is that they are not properly managing their lives, in general, and can’t get their shit together when they have to get on an airplane.
It should also be noted that both of the cancellations that I’ve highlighted above came from riders with <4.80 rating so drivers have had issues with them in the past.
