These places were my paradise as a teenager in the late '90s, early '00s.
I, like many before me, used to...totally NOT scam the shit out of those Columbia House and BMG Music catalog things: Keep the cd's I liked and took the rest to a used CD store. I would spend so much time clack clack clack shuffling through their used sections. I sure hope I was never too much of a nuisance to the fine employees there when I would time and time again come to the counter to ask if I could listen to another CD. Record Garden in Springfield was my goto place mainly because of its proximity to where I lived and the fact that I used the busses to travel around town. There they had one single old ass CD player at the counter with a raggedy pair of headphones where you could listen to stuff before you bought it. CD world on the other hand had a nice little listening area with couches or chairs, I can't remember, and you could listen to a few at a time. Honorable mention to the CD/Game Xchange in downtown Eugene. They were pretty cool, but I never liked their set up, didn't feel...cozy to me. Haha I'm so glad these places existed. Music was my world. I hated school and would ditch all the time, but I never got high or drunk or whatever, I'd spend my day riding the busses around finding any music store I could, CD disc man skillfully crammed into my pants pocket. These places fuled my passion, expanded my appreciation for many genres of music, and I am forever greatful. So yeah, I guess thats it for my first...whateverthefuck. Thanks? Bye.
