For far too long I have let
My timidity, my fear
Dictate my choices.
It has led me to choose
Safety, familiarity, comfort
All good things
They slowly strangle my growth
As a tree in a pot
Refuses to grow beyond its confines.
It is a life of stagnation
That slowly chokes life
Out of me.
So for the first time,
I stretch my shaking hands--
And oh, how they tremor so--!
Reach out to starlike dreams,
Impossible, unreachable
And I find
That they are tangible,
Closer at hand than I had every thought
And it terrifies and exhilarates me in equal measure.
They tell me to cast out fear,
But such is impossible!
But... I can try
To tread the path of treacherous dreams,
A narrow bridge over a yawning chasm
Though I tremble and cry out in terror.
Cast out fear, but I cannot,
Only take but another step forward,
Slowly, shakily, then another.
Until someday I can walk
Can run, and sprint, and race to the end
To another beginning.
Cast out fear, they say, but nay--
Fear drives you back, fear keeps you w̶e̶a̶k̶ safe.
But face it head-on anyway
Until fear becomes static,
Until fear becomes so constant that it burns out of your system
Until you look at your hands and find they’ve been wings all along
Face fear everyday.
Let it burn you until you are renewed.
And you will find yourself in places you’ve never thought you’d go.
You are Icarus, with wax wings of fear and determination,
Standing on the ledge of the unknown, destined to overcome fear,
To walk the line between falling and becoming free.
Fly.

Lore:
At some point in my life, I wanted to be a radio/voice actress. Obviously, that didn't happen.
This also pertains to my work, because I chose a more unconventional path that what most people would. It's scary and my future is uncertain, but this is the first time I've decided on something so big.
I'm living my dreams here and now. The actual work is actually a nightmare. Playing at being a VA is my escape.
