I have 2 sightings and this recurring non-sighting.
In middle school I had a janky ATV that I always thought would strand me... But never did. Yamaha Moto 4! We used to ride on a sandy road that ran the perimeter of several farm fields here in NC. They were connected by streams, power line cuts, fire breaks, and trails. Some of the fields had abandon shacks and farm houses in the middle of them. Sometimes just a stray chimney. Once you got back to the over farmed fields that they couldn't use anymore, there was a decrepit chapel that was straight out of fear factor. Nearby, there was a cemetery with less than 100 graves with tombstones that dated 1850-1915 or so. Most stones had been vandalized or overcome by vegetation but it was always cool to go read some when we were bored. Lots of younger people and kids, but people didn't live long back then.
So, that's the setting... on to the experience.
We would haul ass to be out of those woods by nightfall. The ATV had headlights, but all of your senses made it clear that when the sun left, you left. As time passed we got more curious and a little braver. We'd stay later and later. Anywhere near the chapel felt like you were surrounded by werewolves lol. Nothing ever happened out there, but we didn't push our luck at night. We'd hop on the quad and buzz back to our house at the first sound of a twig crack or breeze in the leaves. The odd part was when we were back on the quad. With a field on one side and trees on the other for most of the trail, you could hear something keeping up with us just inside the tree line. Just out of site, using the darkness to hide. If we sped up, it sped up. If we slowed down, they slowed down. Shine a light in there, nothing. Stop and turn off the engine, no noises. While in motion, you'd hear leaves crunch, branches break, puddles splash, and the oddest thing, children giggling. It was like 10 kids ran next to us inside the woods and thought it was funny to mess with us. We assumed it was ghosts of the younger grave yard residents and brought a handful of people back there to experience it. The laughing would occur about 70% of the time, sometimes in different areas but always by the chapel at dusk.
Fast forward 10 years or so and I'm watching a bigfoot show on tv. They played some "chatter" recordings that they believed were some squatches in northern GA. My blood curled and I froze. It was the exact same sound as the "ghost children" laughing. EXACT!
