So You're Interested In Filling One Of My Scripts? I Love That For You, And For Me
Post Body

Rules & Recommendations for Script Filling

Interacting with Semaphore

  • I am on a strict no-flirting-via-DMs-or-messages diet.
  • Related to this, I am very frequently uncomfortable talking about why I wrote something. I wrote it because I thought it would be interesting, helpful, or titillating. I might have some of the kinks in there, I may not. I, however, love talking about my characters' motivations! Asking a follow-up about a diary entry/journal entry/true story? Of course you can!
  • You do not need to ask me if you can fill a script. Anyone can, even if I was inexplicably mean to you once.

Themes

  • Pretty much all of my writing in this space is about people learning to love themselves in the face of societal norms and pressures. All of my writing does have a "point." I hope that is at least somewhat apparent.

General Posting

  • I welcome anyone to fill any of my scripts for posting on the GWA and related subreddits.
  • Please ask me before posting a filled script anywhere other than GWA and its sibling subreddits.
  • I charge for posting scripts behind a paywall, even early access. My rates are very reasonable.
  • I don’t mind if you post on Patreon but it is not behind a paywall, but please let me know.

Improvisation, You Should Do It And Also Make Choices

  • I really, really like improvisation and really, really, really, want all the VAs who are interested in my work to think that they are engaging in a collaborative work of art. You can improvise!
  • I do not mind if you add particular elements of LISTENER CHARACTER/PRESUMED LISTENER unless they are counter-indicated by the script. I’m pretty lenient on this, but I do think it’s often a bad practice.
  • Please localize as much as you like. They call gym shoes "trainers" or "sneakers" wherever you are? And for some reason my script mentions... "gym shoes"? That's fine, just change it. I prefer it, actually. I think it can sound weird otherwise.

Jewish Stuff

  • I do not mind non-Jewish VAs playing Jewish characters - have fun!
  • If you would like to remove Jewish aspects of a script, please ask me first. I’ve softened up on this recently, and might be okay with it! (If you are weird about Jews, I won’t be!)
  • If you would like to remove discussion of Israel, Palestine, and Gaza in any script, I will very sympathetic to this, but ask me first.
  • I can help with Hebrew pronunciation.
  • So far, none of my scripts include words that have to be pronounce in Ashkenazi vs. Sephardi vs. Mizrachi pronunciation. Assume the transliteration is acting as a stand-in for the Hebrew letters, and you can pronounce them however you would naturally pronounce them.

Inclusivity

  • I think about what markers of difference to add in my scripts pretty thoughtfully. If it's in there, there is usually a reason. If it's NOT in there, there may be a reason.
  • That said, because of the way I write and think about my writing, I do not subscribe to the idea that the CHARACTER LISTENER/PRESUMED LISTENER necessarily needs to be as "blank" or as "potentially inclusive" as possible. You can describe them if you need to.
