Today starts pride month. As much as I want to celebrate pride, I can't. I can't bring myself to celebrate pride while we are fighting the oppression of the black community. While we are trying to fight white supremacy. While we are trying to fight for basic fucking human rights.
Pride is for celebrating. But when I see my fellow Americans suffering? I don't feel like celebrating anything. I want to mourn with them. Cry with them. Fight for them. Bring awareness to the issues.
I want humans to be treated with dignity and respect. All humans, regardless of their race, sexual orientation, religion, or occupation. I want humans to be kind to one another. I want humans to thrive, not just survive, and some, like George Floyd, not even doing that. However where as I want that for all humans, and pride is about fighting for LGBTQIA and getting recognition? It can be put on hold for now. Instead, I will rise up with my black brothers and sisters and lend my voice for their fight against their oppression. Because right now, and always, they need all the allies they can get. I may not be able to do much, but I stand with the black community to work to bring about change and to end the oppression they've been fighting for years. This needs to end now.
