I wrote up a fantasy mini-story that seemed worth saving for later.
Dark green pine needles and lighter-green leaves surround you in the forest. Small pine cones dot the ground along with thin twigs and wildflowers in shades of purple and yellow. The ground makes quiet crunching noises as your feet step along what is barely a trail anymore. But that smell... something... fresh baked but you cannot quite make out what... pulls you forward. Your nose reaches out in all directions, trying to pin down the familiar scent. Where is it stronger; which direction?
Your nose finally remembers... peanut butter. Yes. Someone is baking fresh cookies. The make-shift trail curls around a pair of gigantic trees and you remember where the path leads. To a little clearing next to a large pond with a small house at the end. You knew there was someone living there before but hadn't investigated thoroughly. You veer off the trail and ensure your form is hidden behind the forest as you approach the clearing and the delicious odor of the cookies. Someone is humming inside. Your exceptional hearing picks up what others might have missed until getting much closer.
Your feet move silently as you have expertise in stalking and remaining unheard and you get closer still. Your keen eyes start to make out the shadow of a girl behind a curtained window. She seems to be wearing some sort of hood or cloak because her hair creates no separate outline. You can make out the shape of a picnic basket on the counter and she seems to be filling it with the baked goodies. You decide to keep watch a little longer, knowing that the packing of this basket means she will be exiting soon and then you can decide what you wish to do. And how many sweets you wish to try.
