Preface
Hi! Thanks for clicking on my post! This thing is a beast, so I've tried to keep it organized. I'm a very organized person. That being said, reddit chat is even worse than you think. It keeps locking me out of conversations (It gets stuck on the "accept/ignore" step), so just be aware of that when you contact me.

1. What I'm Looking For
1.1. Someone to Play Factorio with
Ideally who has played less than 20 hours. I like the game, it's fun, but it definitely gets lonely.
1.2. A React Specialist
I'm making quite a bit of progress on complex backend tooling and need a front-end specialist who can help me ensure the user interface is as powerful and effective as the underlying architecture. I want to do mutual code review and learn from each other.
1.3. Fellow Researchers
I'm looking for people who love to learn. I'm looking for people with interest in linguistics, computer science, electrical engineering, audio processing and music, eastern philosophy, and martial arts.
1.4. Community Builders
I want to start and maintain discussions on not only how to have better conversations, but also how to form and maintain community. I'm committed, I try to connect with others every week. I keep trying. I keep failing and I'm OK with that. I want others with this attitude.
1.5. People Who Are Willing to Sit Still Together
At the moment, I'm looking for people who love to learn, who want to learn zazen, that is just sitting mediation. I think it would be really fun and peaceful.
2. Some Statistics
2.1. Overview of Response Times and Engagement
I'll have better ones eventually when I build machines to do it, because that's what I do, I build machines.
The median response time to a post like this is 6 hours.
The average number of replies I get to a non-python teaching post is 2.
About 2k people see each post.
2.2. Results and Relationships
In the last 5 months I've been doing this, I've connected with about 900 people, give or take.
Out of those 900 connections, I've made genuine connections with about 5 people.
Out of all my posts, my second python post is the most successful, with about 200 responses.
Out of my non-python posts, the redacted one has been the second most successful at kicking off dynamic and interesting conversations.
2.3 Reflection It's easy to get discouraged by these numbers. But these numbers show what people already know: Making friends is hard and genuine connections are rare.
3. Introduction
3.1. Importance of Reading and Accessibility
First off. I want someone who reads.
I know that's an inaccessible statement.
I love all my friends with dyslexia, but I have enough of them.
I do my best to live my life in public, and my reddit is, I hope, reflective of at least part of who I am.
But because I do actually care about accessibility very deeply, the rest of this post is going to go over things you can (and can't) learn about me by digging through my public self.
4. About Me
4.1. Senior Cloud Engineer
I've spent the last 7 years of my life doing cloud engineering for big companies. I've gotten pretty good at it, but I prefer not to talk about work. One thing that this has given me though is an opportunity to think at scale. So many things become radically different at scale. And that's why I'm trying to introduce everyone to thinking this way.
4.2. PhD Student
I am currently in the process of indexing and ordering my research on Information, Logistics
, Collaboration, and their role in brain function, with specific focus on learning and education. I don't currently have anything worth reading, but I've done a ton of research and will likely bring it up quite often (because it's relevant often). One of the difficulties I'm having is figuring out what I want to get my degrees in. Current contenders are Information Science, Electrical Engineering, Education, Psychology, and Neuroscience, though this list always seems to be growing.
4.3. Inventor
The first thing people ask when they hear this title is "What have you invented?" and that's exactly what I would ask too. Unfortunately, most of my inventions are owned by aforementioned big companies. Which is why I've recently trying to focus on non-work related inventions. And that project is going well. I have several prototypes that are undergoing testing and the results are promising. Several of these inventions are related to information storage and retrieval, as well as productivity, conversation, and even image generation. If any of those sound interesting, I can tell you more.
4.4. Fiance
I'm not single, I'm not looking for a romantic connection. I'm looking to make strong and interesting connections with strong and interesting people.
4.5. Zen Buddhist
My spirituality is deeply important to me. I have invested a significant portion of the last 25 years to the pursuit and refinement of my spiritual experience. If you aren't familiar with Zen, the essential principle is the experience of reality. Each person's experience is unique, and yet enlightenment is achievable by all. This is but one of innumerable dualities that reveal the fundamental truths of the connectedness of all things. One of the other things that really resonates with me about Zen is the acknowledgment of the reality that experience transcends words, and that only by meditation and zazen (Just Sitting) can we reach the truth.
4.6. Game Designer and World Builder
I love designing games, mechanisms, and systems. Thinking about and discussing systems and mechanisms and how they interact with each other is one of my favorite activities in the world.
5. The Horny Parts
Slavery makes my cunt wet. I cum to misogyny. Women are made to be slaves.
If those statements appeal to you, the chance that we'll get along is dramatically higher. At my core, I'm a very kinky person, and I've found that I match best with other kinky people.
I have really been enjoying the discussions, relationships, and worlds that have resulted from my posts in r/dirtypenpals, and would like to have more of those.
