I believe that capitalism is working the way that it is supposed to. It's just that the way it is supposed to work is to have an ever increasing wealth disparity, ever decreasing profit margins, and that it influences people to behave immorally. Not to mention the huge pitfalls of the tragedy of the commons, the need for infinite growth and the increasing commoditization ever basic things, such as conversations. Regulations are there to prevent the full destructive and exploitative effects of unbridled capitalism.
I believe in equality. Both when it comes to my far left political stance, and attitude when it comes to personal interactions. So, I kind of hate the giving gifts, or monetary exchanges in friendships.
I believe in the hedonic treadmill. And how important it is to do something about it. Taking moments to appreciate the small things in life. To focus on the process instead of the outcome. To be mindful about letting go of expectations. To practice a lot of gratitude and humility.
I believe in science, the notion that something needs to be reproducibly and reliably proven before believing in it's existence.
I believe that the human mind is often unreliable. Too often we are prone to bias, to logical fallacies, to misremembering. So, it's useful to be able to stay grounded, rethink your stances, conclusions and beliefs.
I believe that greater understanding of self leads to a happier life.
I don't believe I should feel pride about the country I was born in, our national soccer team, nor historical figures. It's a form of pride that wasn't earned, and it mostly serves to justify hierarchies.
I don't believe in the value of a person. Value is not a physical object, but rather an imaginary thing we ascribe to something. Nowadays, the consideration of someone's value seems more like a barrier than anything else; A way to say that someone isn't worthy enough to connect with, or to despair due to their own value compared to others. Because the personal value consideration is so subjective, impressionable and biased, it seems illogical to have that kind of consideration in the first place.
I don't believe in objective meaning and deservedness of things. I don't believe that meaning and deservedness exist in physical reality or anything objective really. Those 2 concepts, because they are so imaginary and arbitrary, can be manipulated into anything. But, they are most often turned into something negative in a person's life: Feeling deservedness makes a person appreciate less, while it can be very detrimental to change one's mind about the meaning of important things, such as the meaning of life(the change itself being brought about because of the arbitrariness).I think that life is possible without these concepts. Instead of exerting effort in making something imaginary real, why not put some effort into modifying what one wants. I, for one, don't feel like I deserve anything, nor am I hampered from some forms of enjoyment by mandating them to be meaningful.
I don't believe in religions, spiritual dimensions, metaphysics, fairy tales or anything that doesn't have reproducible proof behind it.
I believe that even though even though the universe is essentially deterministic, some epi-phenomenon, while entirely based on the constituent parts, can behave in a very independent way. Consider if an impactful movie, song, story would have been any less impactful if you've listened to it a few seconds after you did, when all the atoms in your body would have been in a slightly different place.
