Post Body

Lukas

The Wild Dog is the title most often used for Lukas, as he is the rare Space Wolf to leave Khorne's Pack behind and fight without the blessing of the Blood God. He is known to prefer the Laughing Wolf or the Gangrel, however, and using some other title in his hearing risks being the next target of his debilitating (or, occasionally, deadly) pranks.

Born on the Wolves' ancestral home planet of Fenris, just outside the Eye of Terror, he is a scion of the blood-drenched mockery of traditional Fenrisian culture that the Space Wolves enforce. While Khorne is their patron and most revered, all four gods of chaos are honored when it is time for doings of their nature - honor the Wolves humor because they dislike protecting their pet Fenrisians from daemon warbands trying to violently spread the good news of Nurgle, Tzeentch, or even the hated Slaanesh.

Lukas early in life demonstrated an affinity for the Changer of Ways, and though sorcery was strictly forbidden he found that causing Tzeentch to smile on him without it was not so very difficult. Whether Tzeentch suggested he enter the trials of the Space Wolves or it was his own idea for a prank, only they know, and neither is likely to tell. He passed, finding his bloodlust unusually weak but winning repeatedly against any who challenged him for lack of thirst for Khorne.

This and his many pranks, sometimes lethal and others traceable to him but never both, did prevent him from rising too highly in the ranks of any warband - and many shoved him from group to group, hoping to be rid of the trickster.

Eventually he was in command of a small detachment - picked marines, who shared his sense of humor and appreciation for slaughter from a distance - on a remote planet where crusaders from the Order of the Caged Beast were attempting to displace the Space Wolves. He found that the climate was controlled by an ancient device, pumping heat into the system; laughing with delight, he brought his "Jackal Pack" to it and destroyed it, freezing the planet in two short weeks and making the Chained Hound descendants sitting ducks for Wolves whose first battlefields were icier than the planet they now fought.

Lukas and his jackals went unthanked, and here he decided he had had enough. He brought his pack near the place the Caged Beast had made planetfall, not telling them his purpose. On reaching the site, he sniffed the air, dug for a few moments, then pried open a door to a small starship and turned to his men. It's reported that his words were "I believe I'm done with Khorne for a while, lads. What do you say: shall you be humorless wolves or laughing jackals?"

Nineteen wolves were gathered at the ship's landing; thirteen jackals flew away. They offered their services to a number of warbands serving all gods and none, overtly taking payment in fodder and plunder and covertly in pranks played. By the time they had been independent for a decade, half the warbands in the Eye (and not a few in the Maw) were absolutely furious with them. The other half, however - and, grudgingly, a sizable minority of the furious - acclaimed them as the best spies and covert ops Chaos could field, with only Hydra-lineage traitors on their level.

This notoriety led to other marines seeking to join the jackal pack, and soon Lukas found himself with a small armada at his command. This was far too much responsibility, and so he took the smallest ship and three brothers and left suddenly, leaving the pack behind. It was some time shortly after this that he acquired his most proudly displayed trophy, the pelt of a doppelgangrel, whose camoflage makes them very difficult to catch and nearly impossible to kill. He wore it always, until he was anointed a Champion of Chaos and the gift of the gods melded the pelt with his own skin, making him as well camoflaged as his prey.

He has continued his exploits, accruing and abandoning warbands several times. He has never been seen to pledge his support to any god, currying favor from all but Nurgle regularly but following only his own path. Even the Malefactors of the Death Guard have occasionally used his services, despite their hatred for all other Chaos-worshippers.
