Gal Lorgar
After the destruction of Monarchia and his period of penitence, Lorgar was again converted to the Old Faith by Kor Phaeron, and the Word Bearers embarked on a furious charge across the stars, with the Cadian system their ultimate destination. Diving into the bare singularity of the Eye of Terror, Lorgar and his Serrated Suns chapter became the hosts of daemons, Lorgar himself merging with the ancient, conniving spirit Madail. Naming he and the Suns the Gal Vorbak (Blessed Sons), the daemon-host marines and Primarch were filled with new purpose.
His brother primarchs note in their contemporary recollections that after the long campaign he waged after Monarchia, Lorgar seemed a changed man. He no longer overreacted to every compliment or slight, but was collected and confident. He still declined to fight duels, but no longer seemed to resent those who offered the challenge.
He declined those duels because he knew he could win them. Madail had given him physical strength, enough to raise suspicions if he displayed it in a dueling bout. Perhaps more importantly, though, Madail had also increased his psychic gifts enormously. It is an open question, likely never to be decided, whether Magnus or Lorgar was a more powerful psyker in those days, but it is certain that he ranked with Magnus and Malcador as psykers second only to the Emperor in might. He used this might to divine how best to sow dissent between his brothers and the Emperor, between his brothers and each other, and between the marines and the populace, and how to turn his renegade brothers to the service of Chaos.
The culmination of these efforts was Istvaan and the Massacre. The lives spilled fueled his transformation and those of the Gal Vorbak to great heights, and upon personally delivering the killing blow on Perturabo, he ascended to Daemonhood in his own right. Considering himself indebted to Madail, he shared a portion of his new power with it, and they became conjoined soul-twins, each able to manifest separately but able to distribute his awareness between his own manifestation and his blood-brother's. Known as the Twin Pilgrims, their alliance has held firm through ten millennia, through victory and through defeat, through divine favor and through divine scorn. It seems likely that they are no longer two minds, but one; the absolute trust they would share otherwise would be unprecedented among servants of Chaos.
