Hello! I thought it would be a fun idea to go through a few of my favorite Christmas gifts I've received throughout the years. I know this is the season of giving, but it's hard to talk about the gifts I gave to others without also explaining my entire family and friend group. And I'm also not saying this to brag, I just thought it would be a fun topic.
The earliest gifts I would consider to be among the best are transformers toys and skylanders. Those were some of my biggest special interests as a kid (although I didn't know they were special interests at the time) so getting stuff like that always made me happy.
For a few years I was also able to go to the movies on Christmas. The live action Alvin and the Chipmunks movies released on Christmas Day for a few years in a row and my dad would take me to them. The movies are not very good in hindsight and I always felt bad for the workers, but those movies are very nostalgic for me for that reason.
Last year I got the game Danganronpa: Decadence as a gift. All I knew about Danganronpa at the time was that it was a killing game and I knew what monokuma looked like. I was happy to get the game, but only after realizing how much I loved it would it become one of my favorites. It introduced me to a special interest that's still going strong to this day.
I also really like snow globes, so getting snow globes are always fun. It is kinda weird getting a Christmas decoration on Christmas Day, but I'm always appreciative and excited to put them up next year. Something about snow globes are just so pretty. And the ones that have a music box inside that plays a carol are just the cherry on top.
But my absolute favorite was something homemade. My grandma sewed a stocking with my name on it when I was a baby and I've used it for Christmas ever since. However, once I realized I was trans that name became more of a sore reminder than anything else. My grandma, who hadn't sewn anything in years at that point, put a patch over my old name that had my chosen name on it. To this day it's the only gift that's made me cry in a good way. It was such a wonderful this to receive, even if it was technically something I already owned.
What are some of your favorite gifts from past holidays? Please let me know! I love hearing about the gifts, big or small, that make people feel special during this season. Happy holidays, everyone! <3
