What is friendship? Google tells me…
“Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people. It is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an "acquaintance" or an "association", such as a classmate, neighbor, coworker, or colleague.”
I’ve been asked myself this question multiple times throughout my life. People ask me and my eyebrows just raise in befuddlement.
In my opinion “friendship” is that warm feeling of another living being. One that creates a space that allows you to be yourself, in the truest sense of the word. The type of person who can listen to you talk for hours, and not even care what you’re talking about. Alternatively, the type of person you can sit or lay next too, not having to utter a word. Someone regardless of their own thoughts and opinions, chooses to trust and believe in you.
A friend is not someone who always needs something from you. Someone who has to consider their own self being before yours in all cases. The type of person who needs to ask and reaffirm their status in your life.
In this place and time, many would have you believe your are in a friendship with them. They will only be their to enjoy your company when a use can be made of you.
My hope is in you reading this, acquiring the knowledge to tell the difference between a friend, and someone who just refers to you as one.
Thanks for reading.
