You’ve made your way onto my profile! I’m Nikki1190, but you can call me niks. I've decided to make a profile for myself just to keep everything nice and organized for myself. If you make it to the end of this, I commend your effort!

I'm from Canada-- Winterpeg, Manitoba, to be exact. In a way, it’s a quiet city— scenes are pretty limited over here. The weather is unpredictable, but rather predictable in that sense. It can be sunny, rainy, and snowy all in one day. I like it here (minus the humid summers) and I definitely want to go exploring for the unknown spots that have appeared over the years.

I have a varied list of interests and hobbies, so it’s best that I go over them now. Some of it will niche itself together, others may end up on another plane of existence— it went that way for some reason. Perhaps, you’ll find something relatable!

My biggest interest is in music, always was and always will. Music is my life. I was singing at a young age and vibing to 90s/00s pop as I grew up. Music always finds a way to present itself in my daily life.

The music I listen to lands in the world of pop. Since 2010, all I’ve listened to is K-Pop and some J-Pop (2014 to now). When I listen to K-Pop, it’s mostly focused around the mainstream pop of 2007 to 2014. Occasionally, I’ll listen to something new, but it’s kind of rare unless I stumble upon a track in a variety show that really clicked with me. After 2014, I haven’t religiously followed anyone new because of how volatile the K-Pop scene is. Nonetheless, I’ll keep an ear out for SNSD, SHINee, BTS, BoA, Chungha, aespa, ITZY and LOONA.

My ear for Western (American/European) music is quite strange at times. I find myself listening to music from the 70s to early 00s. I’ll listen to 70s and 80s rock, 70s to early 2010s pop, and 90s to early 00s R&B. I’m a diehard Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys fan, but I’m also a big fan of Metallica and Iron Maiden.

I do love Deep House music!

I’m definitely a fan of game instrumentals and OSTs (game or drama)! Final Fantasy soundtracks have my heart.

Speaking of game instrumentals, I do like to game. I was definitely in the deep end for Warframe until 2016. I burned myself out from all of the grinding and I’ve been away long enough that the new content has become overwhelming. I haven’t gamed in a while— the last games I’ve played were Monster Hunter Rise and World. The unfortunate part is I think that Warframe and MHW ruined my patience (especially when my MHW save got corrupted). Nonetheless, I’m down to play a game if you are! I play on PC (Steam) and Switch!

I don’t really watch TV that much anymore unless it’s the Great Baking Show (Canadian version because Ann Pornel and Alan Lewis drew me back in after Dan Levy and Julia Chan). Sometimes, I’ll watch Grey’s Anatomy, but I miss the days when Criminal Minds was on then Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, followed by Code Black. Those were the days.

Sometimes, I craft. I picked up crocheting back in November 2018. I’ve made slippers, hats, neck warmers, and some amigurumi. I have a scarf and wrap that have been put on hold, and now I’m just trying to figure out where I put all of my gear.

I’m trying to learn a new language. Okay, I’m trying to be a polyglot for curious reasons. I took up Japanese back in university, but I unintentionally sabotaged that by listening to K-Pop music. The following year in university, I learned Korean, but I unintentionally sabotaged that by listening to J-Pop. So! I’m trying to learn those two again... while I watch Chinese dramas. Good thing I’m also interested in Mandarin. Study buddy— would you like to be mine?

Sometimes, I think I’m a writer. It’s been a while since I’ve written anything substantial and finished it. I have days where I’m on a roll, but then lethargy hits most days after that. I have a queer novel in mind, but I mostly write fanfiction. Most of my work is under the K-Pop tag on AO3 with the sprinkling of Supergirl. Trying to reignite my passion from 2010 is a bit of a struggle. I want to know if I still have the writing chops!

I love my sports. I used to play basketball and run track. As a short Asian, it still boggles my mind that I played post in basketball and had to fight against other kids who were basically a foot taller than me. I really want to play volleyball— one experience in gym class and Haikyuu!! had me itching to be a libero.

I’m a big advocate when it comes to mental health. I have my diagnoses and experiences, so I always search for knowledge about the topic. Let’s break the stigma around a topic that affects everyone.
