A look ahead for Mr. Skeleton Gloves (Warning: Rather wordy)
Post Body

Here are a few things that have been on my mind lately. Things are going pretty well in the writing department, and I want to keep it that way. Here's the direction I'm headed right now, both as a writer and a listener (and maybe a recorder? or maybe not).

On writing:

I've decided to work on more "genre" scripts. Lately I'm enjoying playing more with setting, scenery and tone. There are so many ways to introduce a character, a situation, or a backdrop. But it feels like there's a very limited number of ways to write "Oh, yeah. Just like that. Yeah, yeah, give it to me." No, I'm not going SFW (although that's still something I may experiment with). I just want to really explore different worlds and concepts.

My recent fantasy and cyberpunk scripts are some of the most fun I've had writing. I immensely enjoyed putting myself into the headspace needed to write them (and again, a huge thanks to /u/dreamreapercid for a completely "S-class" script fill on the fantasy one).

And this also isn't saying that I'm completely done with writing "real-world" scripts. If a good idea strikes me, I'll gladly write it. I just want to play with more genres for now. In no particular order: Sci-fi, medieval fantasy, vintage pulp/noir, pirate tales, westerns... whatever I feel like at the moment.

If you've got any suggestions in that direction, I'm always glad to read them.

On listening:

I'm going to be more open and honest with my (positive) feedback. This doesn't mean getting "horny on main" (or elsewhere). It means being more specific.

  • Bad example: "You did an awesome job!"
  • Good example: "I love your use of pauses to just let that feeling of suspense linger."

Both of these are positive. But one of them doesn't say anything about why an audio was good. The other one (hopefully) helps the VA identify good aspects of their performances - at least to my ears.

And no, I'm not pretending to be an expert on any of this. But I hope that sort of feedback is appreciated.

I will only focus on the positive aspects of performances, unless specifically asked "what could I have done better?" And then I'll stress out over how to respond to that, start typing, delete, start typing again, delete again, and just repeat that process while I try to make sure I word things with as kind of a tone as possible (seriously, I'm very self-conscious).

Criticism - even well-intended - can ruin's someone's day if not handled properly, which is why I'm only going to give it if requested.

On script requests and fills:

I've been asked a few questions about scripts. So consider this a mini-FAQ. I still love script requests / prompts / suggestions! That hasn't changed.

  • "Can I change this thing in your script, if I fill it?" As long as you're not changing the script to something harmful, bigoted or otherwise wrong-headed, I'd say do it. If you're unsure, feel free to reach out to me.
  • "Can I fill your script on my pay site?" As long as I'm properly credited and given access to the audio in some form or another, sure.
  • "Can you write a script about...?" This is on a case-by-case basis. I might struggle with some subjects / kinks / settings. And that might not be because I have a problem with them. It could be that I don't know enough about the thing, so I feel like I'd do a mediocre job .

On recording

I've considered getting recording a few times. But at the same time, I have a lot of anxiety about having my voice out there.

I realize a lot of VAs feel the same way, and did so anyway. You're probably more courageous than I.

I'm still attempting to come to a decision on the subject. I've read a few different opinions in chat / DM, and they're appreciated.

At this moment, I can't guarantee anything in either direction. I struggle with real-life anxiety disorder and occasional (but rare) panic attacks, so I'd appreciate not being pressured on this topic.

If you've read all of this, thanks! I've had great discussions with some amazing people since becoming more active in GWA. I appreciate seeing new perspectives, receiving feedback, and sometimes just the occasional "how are you tonight?"

Now let's get out there and write some smut!
